Google has significantly increased its footprint in Bengaluru by leasing 649,000 square feet of office space in Alembic City, Whitefield. According to a report by the Economic Times, this lease comes with a three-year lock-in period at a monthly rental rate of Rs 62 per square foot, amounting to a staggering Rs 4,02,38,000 per month.

This new office space acquisition aligns with Google’s ongoing strategy to expand its operations in India. The move follows the recent restructuring of its workforce, where some core positions were relocated from the US to India. This shift underscores Google’s commitment to leveraging India’s robust talent pool and cost-effective operational environment.

Google’s expansion in India is not limited to Bengaluru. In 2022, Google Connect Services India Pvt. Ltd. renewed its lease for 600,000 square feet of office space in Hyderabad. Additionally, Google agreed to lease 1.3 million square feet of office space from Bagmane Developers in Bengaluru. Since 2020, Google’s office space portfolio in India has grown by 3.5 million square feet, bringing its total real estate footprint to 9.3 million square feet, spanning five cities.

Google’s foray into manufacturing in India is a testament to its optimistic future. The company is set to manufacture smartphones at a Foxconn facility in Tamil Nadu and initiate drone manufacturing in the state. The production of Pixel smartphones in India is expected to kick off with the Pixel 8 model, a significant stride in Google’s strategy to localise production and reduce dependency on other markets.
