Google has opened Ananta, a 1.6-million sq. ft. campus in Bengaluru, reinforcing its commitment to India’s tech and AI growth. It has over 5,000 employees and features collaborative workspaces, sustainability initiatives, and inclusive design. With AI-driven innovation and digital expansion, Google strengthens its presence in India’s evolving tech landscape.
Google has officially opened Ananta, one of its largest global campuses, in Bengaluru’s Mahadevapura. This state-of-the-art facility, spanning 1.6 million square feet and designed to house over 5,000 employees, reinforces Google’s commitment to India’s digital transformation. With this launch, Google’s workforce in India now exceeds 10,000 employees across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Gurugram, Mumbai, and Pune.
A Milestone in Google’s India Journey
India remains a strategic market for Google, with investments spanning internet accessibility, digital services, and AI-driven solutions. Ananta, meaning ‘limitless’ in Sanskrit, symbolises the company’s vision of pushing technological boundaries. Teams working on Android, Search, Pay, Cloud, Maps, Play, and DeepMind will operate from this new hub, which is designed to foster collaboration while supporting deep-focus work.
“As India has charted an ambitious new reality for its citizens with technology, Google has been its proud partner over the last 20 years. The new Ananta campus in Bengaluru marks a significant milestone in our journey, marking the technological paradigm shift underway with AI,” said Preeti Lobana, Vice President and Country Manager of Google India.
Designed for Innovation and Well-being
The campus is structured like a city grid, ensuring easy navigation with clear pathways. Workspaces mimic neighbourhood layouts, featuring collaborative zones, small privacy booths, and a central gathering hub called Sabha—a space for discussions and company-wide events. The campus is built to enhance productivity and employee well-being, emphasising natural light, open spaces, and a balance between aesthetics and functionality.
Accessibility is a key focus, with tactile flooring for visually impaired individuals and inclusive facilities. Employees also benefit from jogging and walking paths designed to promote informal meetings and relaxation. Inspired by Bengaluru’s title as India’s Garden City, Ananta integrates extensive greenery into its design, creating a workspace that blends nature with technology.
Sustainability at the Core
Google has prioritised sustainability in Ananta’s construction. The campus features a 100% wastewater recycling system, rainwater harvesting infrastructure, and one of India’s largest innovative glass installations, reducing artificial lighting and cooling need. The interiors incorporate locally sourced materials, aligning with the company’s commitment to eco-friendly development.
Looking ahead, Google envisions India as a global AI powerhouse. “I see us focused on some core areas: empowering businesses and individuals through widespread AI adoption, ensuring AI transformation doesn’t stay on the margins of the economy but creates impact in its systemic areas such as agriculture, health, and fintech,” Lobana added.
With Ananta, Google strengthens its role in India’s evolving digital landscape, offering a space that fosters innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability—hallmarks of the future workplace.
