GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) Consumer Healthcare has inaugurated a state-of-the-art bright office in Gurgaon, signalling a dramatic shift from conventional workspaces. Designed with a human-centric approach, the new office embodies GSK’s mission to help people “do more, feel better, and live longer,” with a focus on collaboration, flexibility, and productivity.

The innovative workspace concept emerged from an internal study that revealed inefficiencies in traditional office setups, where 85% of assets were dedicated to cubicles, but only 35% of work activities occurred there. “We are excited about this open, free, and fun work environment,” said Zubair Ahmed, Managing Director of GlaxoSmithKline Consumer Healthcare. “This shift to a barrier-free, flexible seating arrangement is aimed at making work more enjoyable and productive.”

Inspired by the human body, the office design includes four symbolic layers: the heart, vein, brain, and skin. The heart serves as an energy hub at its core, connecting the lobby and reception area to the rest of the office. The vein facilitates seamless movement and connectivity, encouraging organic conversations. The brain symbolizes innovation, featuring intelligent meeting rooms, quiet spaces, and casual huddle areas. Finally, the skin represents a dynamic environment for collaboration and co-creation.

Key features of the office include a cabin-less format and flexible seating arrangements. Employees are empowered to choose their seats, fostering autonomy and engagement. Functional heads now work alongside their teams to strengthen teamwork and collaboration, a significant departure from traditional hierarchical layouts.

Technology plays a pivotal role in enabling uninterrupted work from any corner of the office. Formal and informal spaces have advanced tools for seamless operations, reflecting GSK’s commitment to smart working practices.

This Gurgaon office is GSK’s second smart office globally, following the success of its North American headquarters at Navy Yard, Philadelphia. The workspace blending cutting-edge design with functionality exemplifies the company’s vision for a modern, inclusive, and productive workplace.
