Studio Saransh unveils ‘Oasis,’ a serene, nature-immersed architecture studio on the outskirts of Ahmedabad. Built with local materials and guided by vernacular principles, the workspace redefines office design, where courtyards, water bodies, and sunlit walkways encourage collaboration, contemplation, and connection with nature. Oasis is a living, working campus in motion.
A Campus Where Architecture Meets Nature
In a conscious departure from city-centre chaos, Indian architecture firm Studio Saransh has unveiled Oasis, its new self-designed workspace nestled in the peaceful suburbs of Ahmedabad. More than just an office, Oasis is a living campus that embraces nature as an essential design element, weaving it into daily work life.
The shift wasn’t merely about escaping congestion. “Our relocation stems from a desire to slow down and work in an environment that nurtures creativity,” shares the firm. The move marks a transformation in their design philosophy, where the workspace becomes a silent collaborator.
A Slow, Purposeful Journey Through Space
Approached via a fort-like rubble wall draped in bougainvillaea, the journey into Oasis begins with a walk—an intentional transition from the outside world. A gateway leads into a courtyard shaded by Gulmohar trees, guiding visitors through a sequence of interconnected blocks that unfold like a story.
Each structure has a distinct function: visitor zones and meeting rooms to focused cabins and a light-filled main studio. The entire campus orbits around a lush sunken courtyard, where an amphitheatre steps down to a lily pond, encouraging impromptu tea breaks and spontaneous conversations.
Crafted With Care and Context
Constructed with 400 mm-thick basalt stone walls and a lightweight steel structure, Oasis pays homage to local materials and climate-conscious architecture. The corrugated steel roofs are dismantle-ready, allowing for future adaptability. North-facing glass facades bring in diffused daylight while keeping the harsh summer heat at bay.
Rainwater harvesting, solar panels, and double-glazed windows reflect a deep commitment to sustainability. “This isn’t just a design project—it’s a climate-responsive, evolving environment,” the architects explain. Every choice, from the flora to the flooring, aims to blend built form with the subtleties of light, temperature, and texture.
A Workspace Designed for People, Not Just Productivity
Walkways thread between the blocks, encouraging movement and unexpected interactions. Oasis is spatially fluid and emotionally grounded, and designed to accommodate different work styles—focused solitude or collaborative engagement. Sunken levels, natural shading, and a calming water body balance function with feeling.
Evenings bring a different energy to the space. Discreet lighting uplights the landscape while tall lamps echo the shape of nearby reeds. “We wanted the lighting to enhance mood, not dominate it,” the studio shares. Outdoor light is kept minimal to preserve dark skies—an ode to the studio’s location, still untouched by urban glare.
A New Blueprint for Indian Workspaces
Oasis is a rare fusion of architecture, landscape, and intention, rooted in the vernacular yet pushing the boundaries of contemporary design. It’s a place where work unfolds between sketching in sunlit corners and watching lily ponds ripple with wind.
With Oasis, Studio Saransh doesn’t just design buildings—it reimagines how spaces can reflect rhythm, identity, and stillness in an otherwise fast-paced profession. Its architecture is a pause, presence, and possibility.
