In a strategic move to expand its data centre infrastructure, Microsoft Corporation (India) Pvt Ltd has acquired a 121,000 square yard land parcel in Nandigama village, Telangana, for ₹181.25 crore from Natco Pharma Ltd. This purchase reflects Microsoft’s commitment to strengthening its presence in India, a key market for its global operations.

Expanding the Data Centre Footprint

This acquisition adds to Microsoft’s growing land portfolio in India, which is actively building data centres to support its cloud services and technology offerings. Earlier this year, Microsoft purchased a 48-acre plot in Hyderabad for ₹267 crore and a 25-acre land parcel in Pimpri-Chinchwad, Maharashtra, for ₹328 crore. These investments aim to bolster Microsoft’s data centre network, which already includes operational centres in Pune, Mumbai, and Chennai, complementing its expanding Hyderabad region.

Hyderabad as a Strategic Hub

Hyderabad holds a central role in Microsoft’s India operations. The company’s India Development Center (IDC) in the city spans 54 acres and focuses on key technologies like Azure, Windows, Office, and Bing. The IDC in Hyderabad operates alongside Microsoft’s other development centres in Bengaluru and Noida, making the city a critical hub for innovation and development.

Growing Presence in Flexible Workspaces

In addition to its data centre expansions, Microsoft has significantly increased its footprint in the flexible office space sector. Over the past two years, it has expanded to 400,000 sq ft, including 250,000 sq ft in Tablespace, Bengaluru, and 150,000 sq ft in WeWork, Noida. This move highlights Microsoft’s adaptability to hybrid work models and its commitment to employee-centric infrastructure.
