WeWork India Raises Renewable Power Share to 27.8% in First Sustainability Report

WeWork India’s first Sustainability Report for FY2025-26 shows a rise in renewable electricity use from 15.3% to 27.8%, alongside a 15.5% decline in Scope 1 and 2 emissions. The flexible workspace operator also improved energy efficiency and expanded ESG reporting with support from Schneider Electric.

WeWork India has released its maiden Sustainability Report for FY2025-26, outlining its environmental, social and governance performance as the flexible workspace operator continues to expand. Titled Shared Spaces, Shared Responsibilities, the report was developed in collaboration with Schneider Electric and follows the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) Standards 2021.

A key highlight is the company’s increased use of renewable electricity. Renewable sources accounted for 27.8% of total electricity consumption in FY2025-26, compared with 15.3% in FY2024-25. By March 2026, renewable electricity had reached 40% of monthly consumption.

The improvement came alongside better energy efficiency. WeWork India’s Energy Performance Index (EPI) declined from 132.7 to 128.5 kWh/sq m/year, moving the company closer to its FY2026-27 target of 120 kWh/sq m/year.

Emissions Fall as Energy Management Expands

WeWork India also reported a 15.5% reduction in combined Scope 1 and Scope 2 greenhouse gas emissions. Emissions declined from 35,156.2 tCO₂e in FY2024-25 to 29,707.7 tCO₂e in FY2025-26.

The company has also established its Scope 3 emissions inventory, covering relevant indirect emissions across its wider value chain. This expands the scope of its sustainability reporting beyond direct operational emissions.

The progress is linked partly to data-led energy management. Since 2022, Schneider Electric has managed WeWork India’s 24×7 central Energy Command Centre, which provides real-time visibility into HVAC systems and energy loads across its locations.

Deepak Sharma, Zone President – Greater India, MD and CEO, Schneider Electric India, said, “Our collaboration with WeWork India goes beyond technology deployment.” He added that advisory, data-driven management, electrification, and digitalisation can help organisations make informed decisions and accelerate progress towards sustainability goals.

Flexible Workspace Growth Meets ESG Goals

The sustainability push comes as WeWork India continues to grow its operating footprint. During FY2025-26, revenue increased 23.4% year on year to ₹24,774.3 million, while its operational footprint reached 8.6 million sq ft across eight cities.

For a flexible workspace operator, sustainability increasingly connects with how offices are designed, built and managed. The report positions environmental performance as part of day-to-day operations rather than a separate ESG programme.

Karan Virwani, MD and CEO, WeWork India, said, “From improving energy efficiency and increasing renewable energy adoption to creating safer workplaces and investing in the communities around us, our focus is on building a business where growth and responsibility reinforce each other.”

People and Workplace Remain Part of ESG Strategy

The report also covers WeWork India’s social performance. Women represented 46% of its workforce and 34% of leadership during the year. The company reported an employee NPS of more than 71 and an employee engagement score of 87.

These measures reflect another part of the flexible workspace model: the workplace itself. Employee resource groups, office participation and community initiatives are included alongside energy and emissions performance.

With its first sustainability report, WeWork India has established a broader framework for tracking ESG performance as its workspace network expands. The company’s partnership with Schneider Electric is expected to continue to support energy monitoring, emissions reporting, and longer-term climate action across its portfolio.
